Theater Sports and Ocean Safety

Both Tina and Kyra demonstrated a great understanding of the topics they chose to teach. Tina taught Theater Sports and the class on its toes from beginning to end. She truly conveyed the idea that theater can by fun and that it can be used to teach about human behavior.

Kyra, on the other hand demonstrated she is a pro when it comes to Ocean Safety. Not only did her lesson come from a place of experience, but she organized the material in a way that was understandable and even applicable to daily life. Those of us who live in South Florida could relate to her material since we deal with the ocean, life guards and ocean safety every time we set foot on a beach.

Class Feedback

"Sports and theater lesson was very interactive and engaging for people of all ages. Both were very passionate about their topics. I like the break for art in both presentations. Slides were bright and colorful" Danielle

"I really liked Tina’s class. She made it entertaining, interesting and fun to follow. She even offered some candies to whoever wanted to be a volunteer which I thought was a very smart way to make people stand up!

Also, the topic was very new. Something that I have never even thought about. She presented in a very clear way making the whole class fun especially because it looks like SHE was having fun while teaching it! Loved it! I’ll definitely remember what theater sports are now! Kyra’s class was interesting as well. It was more serious to me and less entertaining. However, it was a very interesting topic! Also, I liked the activity at the end!" Lucy

"Tina (theater sports): I loved this presentation because she involved everything! Energy, movements, knowledge. I got the point of the presentation and I learned a little more about theatre. Kyra(Ocean safety): I liked this presentation because it’s an important/unusual topic that kids should be aware of." Fortuna

"I thought she did a fantastic job of incorporating the class into every part of her presentation. I thought reading out the timeline of theater sports was smart and effective as it began to engage the class for what they would have to do in class. The activities that we did were all really fun and simple, and everyone was having a great time and laughing through out her class. Her idea to also bring in some sweets was nice! I liked that she forced everyone to go up and participate because they were easy and made class more fun! Great presentation!!" Kyra

"Tina: very interesting sport theatre class. I loved how she made each of us participate and we all laughed. She was extremely motivated and showed a lot of enthusiasm while presenting. She made her lesson very engaging for all of us. Kyra: very interesting topic. I loved it because it is things we see every day but we are usually not taught in school. I loved the assessment she gave at the end." Isabella

"The class on theater sports was a lot of fun! It was interactive and I learned a lot. Who’s line is it anyway is one of my favorite shows to watch at night and I really enjoyed it.  The lesson on ocean safety was very practical. Living in Miami I have often seen the flags but never really knew exactly what they stood for. Interesting to know." Carmen

"I really enjoyed Tina's lesson on Theater Sports. She made it very interactive and rewarded people with candy. It made the lesson fun and forced us to get out of our comfort zone and learn new things. Kyra's lesson on Ocean Safety was very straightforward and useful. The activity she gave us to do really allowed us to show what we learned during her presentation." Mackenzie

Suggestions

Give each student their own paper to color rather than work in groups as children may fight over the crayons and who gets to color.

About Ocean Safety, I feel she could add a video or a real example of the waves so kids can know how dangerous it can be.

It would have been good to keep the age of the class in mind and consistent because it was a little confusing sometimes given the situations that were being acted.
